Squeaky brakes

Not long ago I had an old Jeep Cherokee. It was always hard to start, but it started. I rode that thing until it was rear ended and totaled out. It treated me well, but I can't say I treated it exceptionally well. I neglected it which is why it was hard to start. I replaced the radiator, hoses, battery and a lot of other things. Most after complete failure and the brakes were one thing I waited until the consequences were absolutely dire. The metal was on metal rubbing and scrubbing and had eaten away the wear indicator. I did have warning the brakes were in need of replacement, and it was a light squeak when I pressed on them. The squeak became a rub then that rub turned into a scrub and even drag. Since the damage persisted it simply got worse. The pads wore into the rotor as the pad disintegrated the caliper had to work extra hard to stop the Jeep.

The moral of the story: When you hear a squeak, do something immediately. Brake pads are the least expensive thing you can replace in the brake system and easy enough to do in your own driveway.
